Saturday, March 29, 2008 March Madness Weekend 5 - Targeting Fur Scum Demo #1: Saks Fifth Avenue - Escada Concession Activists gathered in front of Saks Fifth Avenue, home to an Escada concession. Voices raised in chant along with graphic posters of the fur industries victims grabbed the attention of everyone on the heavily traveled sidewalks. Fliers detailing the murderous cruelty that Saks supports were widely distributed. Many individuals sickened by the animal abuse that Saks promotes, promised to join the boycott and pass on the information to family and friends. Activists vowed to return again and again until Saks drops their Escada concession. Demo #2: Versace Versace's culpability in the brutal deaths of 270,000 baby seals brought enraged activists to their Fifth Avenue storefront. One deranged man, clad in a lumpy brown plastic jacket, accosted several demonstrators. He was quickly surrounded by a throng of activists who are known to never back down. After a short exchange of words he and his silent and visibly embarrassed partner slunk away. With adrenaline pumping, activists continued to voice their contempt for Versace's disgraceful seal slaughtering business. Demo #3: Escada Fifth Avenue again shook with activist’s angry voices as they vented outrage at Escada's refusal to remove fur from their designs. Once again it was noted that Escada was quite free of customers and the staff looked even more dejected then usual. Midway through the demonstration, news was received that a boat carrying seal hunters capsized in the ice-covered waters off Canada's East Coast that morning! Bolstered by the outstanding news that there will be one less death vessel stalking baby seals this year, activists resumed their chants with renewed vigor and intensity. Demo #4: Gucci Gucci's new location is heavy with foot traffic, which affords ample opportunities for leafleting and educating the public to the horrors of the fur industry and Gucci's bloody involvement. Chants of "There is no excuse for animal abuse!" reached one potential Gucci customer as she approached the doors. Instead of shopping at the noxious fur peddler, she walked away to spend her money at a more respectable venue. Much to the delight and amusement of compassionate pedestrians and activists alike, perverts foolish enough to be draped in the skins of 50 tortured animals found themselves targeted by a large red arrow proclaiming the simple truths "I paid for animal torture" and "killer fashion". Demo #5: Dennis Basso Fur Salon No demonstration would be complete without stopping at Madison Avenue and 66th Street to visit with the most vile and hated fur ghoul, Dennis Basso. Basso's revolting displays and racks upon racks of mutilated animal hides are an offense to the eyes and souls of all compassionate people. Basso's slack-jawed employees retreated to a back room, as there were no vain customers to cater to, but they could not escape the loud angry voices shaming them from outside. Again, pedestrians commended protesters for their efforts and even a well known British actor/comedian stopped to receive a filer outlining Basso's atrocities. Unable to withstand the fury of passionate activists, Basso's detestable employees tucked tail and closed up their death shop twenty minutes early. The perverted fur scum scurried away under an onslaught of chants and shaming.
