World Lab Animal Liberation Week Launched in NYC – I

WAR has made a commitment to use World Lab Animal Liberation Week as a means of educating the community about cruelty free living and the horrors of animal testing, particularly at Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). An educational display table was set up at each location, offering free literature and a video showing of the undercover investigations taken at HLS. Passersby were drawn to the table by the sounds of a beagle puppy being repeatedly punched in the face by an HLS monster.

Demo #1: Staples - HLS Supplier - 2248 Broadway

Win Animal Rights kicked off World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week at on of the most popular Staples Office Supply outlets in New York City. The store, which sits on the heavily trafficked Broadway between 81st and 82nd Streets, guarantees a steady flow of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Over 25 activists distributed hundreds of flyers and many shoppers stopped at the table to ask questions and more often than not to make a generous donation to help keep the campaign alive. Many were impressed with the efficacy of the campaign after being told about the numerous companies that have cut their ties to HLS.

Regular HLS campaigners were given a wonderful assist by a number of the crew of Sea Shepherd’s Farley Mowat which has been seized in international waters by the Canadian government. Many found themselves in New York City, where they waited for word of the fate of the Farley Mowat. These outstanding activists were quick to volunteer their help and they made an outstanding contribution to the weekend activities.

After spending almost 2 hours educating and flyering, the group turned their energy and their voices to a loud and spirited protest of Staples, suppliers to the puppy killers at HLS. Once again, activists were amazed that Staples employees displayed such a lack of caring and empathy as they continuously show their callous disregard for the bloody mutilated animals killed by HLS.

Demo #2: Dorothy Watson - General Counsel, Novartis – HLS Customer

Mid afternoon the table and protesters moved down to the home of Novartis Vice President and General Counsel Dorothy Watson. Again, this location at Broadway & 72nd Street is perfect for reaching the maximum number of people. The streets were teeming with New Yorkers, tourists and shoppers. All were equally offended by the information about HLS killing 500 animals each and every day.

Shocking and graphic posters coupled with the committed faces of dedicated activists were compelling examples of the grim reality of the horrors of Huntingdon Life Sciences. Regular protesters were happy to see a group of young people who had passed the protest at Staples, pick up posters and join the protest at 72nd Street. Voices rang loud and true and could be heard all the way from West End Avenue. Once more, hundreds of flyers were distributed. Protesters were gratified to hear that many at this location had already learned about HLS from WAR’s regular and frequent protests at this location.
