Sunday, May 6, 2007 Day of Protests in Solidarity with UK Animal Rights Political Prisoners Demo #1 - Paul Bennett, NYSE Senior Vice President The first stop was the home of Paul Bennett, Senior Executive with the New York Stock Exchange. Graphic banners were unfurled and the sound of voices filled the quiet street as we told Paul’s neighbors how the NYSE is in league with the puppy killers of Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). Literature was distributed and once again, the 45’ buffer zone put us at a much more advantageous position on heavily trafficked First Avenue. Demo #2 - Sandra Holleran, Vice President – Bristol-Myers Squibb A short 2 block walk took activists to the home of Sandra Holleran executive with Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS). Once again our painfully graphic banners and posters drew the attention of crowds of people that were walking along the busy street. Flyers specifically about the unholy alliance of BMS and HLS were distributed freely. Once again, the folks in this neighborhood love their companion animals and they were shocked to hear that animal testing is still being done for cosmetics, food additives and chemicals. Demo #3 - John Guttilla – Partner – Rotenberg, Meril, Solomon, Bertiger & Guttilla The day after Cinquo de Mayo saw this location bustling with sidewalk diners at the popular Mexican Cantina Maz Mescal on E. 86th Street. This popular bistro is right next door to the home of HLS CPA John Guttilla. Great location for us, we love it here. Throngs of walkers and the large majority of them highly supportive of our campaign. One couple stopped to say that they were so happy we were there advocating for the animals trapped in the labs of Huntingdon Life Sciences. After being given color flyers with a picture of John Guttilla, many promised to support our campaign and to make phone calls and write letters to stop the killing at HLS. Demo #4 - Lisa Shapiro, GlaxoSmithKline A new location for us was the quaint home of Lisa Shapiro of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). We have been pleased to find the home addresses of some prominent GSK employees as their company has been the staunchest of supporters of HLS and animal testing generally. GSK has used their vast resources to manipulate the courts to obtain ridiculous restraining orders which have created exclusion zones effectively quashing free speech in the UK and elsewhere. Lisa lives on the 2nd floor and her next door neighbor assured us that her apartment faced the street. We hope Lisa saw the pictures of bloody mutilated animals that so disgusted her neighbor. Demo #5 - Gaspare Abbate, GlaxoSmithKline The last stop of the day was the hi-rise apartment building where GSK’s Gaspare Abbate resides. This was a familiar location as we had often protested Dr. Nina Hill of Pfizer when Pfizer was still doing business with HLS. Once again, this building is in a wonderful location. Lots of pedestrians and most of them totally devoted to their companion animals. Most told us that they could not understand how anyone could work for a company that pays the butchers at HLS to mutilate and murder 500 animals a day. GSK specific flyers were distributed which included a listing of their most popular products. No doubt we will keep coming back until GSK gets the message. ![]()
