Sunday, May 31, 2009 WAR Concludes Mad Science May Week in Solidarity with SHAC Mad Science Award Bestowed Upon Top Novartis and Bristol-Myers Squibb Executives. To close out Mad Science May, Win Animal Rights returned to the homes of customers and investors of Huntingdon Life Sciences. They are the lifeblood that keeps that wretched place afloat, just as guilty and heinous as the puppy killers themselves. Demo #1: Michael Grobstein - Director - Bristol-Myers Squibb The first protest began outside the home of Michael Grobstein, Director of Bristol-Myers Squib. Because of his illustrious position, he certainly has an influence in his company's policies, including who they do business with. Activists just wanted to remind him of that little fact. As the protest got underway, the demonstrators were caught off guard by some familiar faces: the Bank of New York goons! Apparently someone told them that there was to be a protest outside Robert Kelly's home again, and the goons wanted to let the activists know that Bank of New York Mellon had sold their shares. Thanks, but activists are always one step ahead and had already found out and suspended the campaign against Robert Kelly! Activists blew them off unceremoniously. In any event, the protesters turned their attention back to where it belonged, and they weren't shy about it: "500 animals died today! Michael Grobstein is to blame!" Pedestrians gladly took information from demonstrators to learn more about what their neighbor's company was up to. Most recognized the Bristol-Myers Squibb logo on the signs and literature and were horrified to see that they would contract with a horrible company like Huntingdon Life Sciences. ![]() Demo #2: Christopher Perretta - CIO - State Street Corp. A short walk away, protesters arrived at the home of Christopher Perretta, Chief Information Officer for State Street Corporation. Although Mad Science may is aimed at customers, State Street currently stands as one of HLS' top Institutional Investors and was so close to the next stop that activists knew they had to take this opportunity to pay a visit. Why anyone would want to invest in such an abhorrent company is anyone's guess. No matter, since activists will continue to alert everyone in Perretta's neighborhood as long as his company is stupid enough to remain a primary investor. One unruly neighbor, perturbed that anyone would dare to exercise their First Amendment rights, stormed out of his apartment looking for a fight. After activists refused to end the protest, he rushed over to the police and demanded that they shut it down. The authorities would have none of it, however, and they informed him that the activists had a legally-protected right to be there. When that did not work he told them that one of the activists had accosted him by offering him a flyer! Needless to say, he stormed off in a huff. Aww, poor baby. Remember you grouchy neighbor, the protesters are there because your neighbor's company trades in blood money. Tell Perreta to follow in the steps of Barclays, Bank of New York Mellon, and Highbridge Capital, and drop HLS. Demo #3: Robert Pelzer - President & CEO - Novartis Pharmaceuticals For the finale, activists came to the most important stop of the day at the home of Robert Pelzer, President and CEO of Novartis. Pelzer was awarded the Mad Science award for his work with Novartis. Graphic signs showing the bloody mutilated remains of animals murdered by Huntingdon Life Sciences were raised along with strong loud voices. “You must, you must, you must understand….the blood, the blood, the blood is on your hands” shouted the activists. In the meantime, the high pedestrian traffic provided another fine tabling opportunity, and the dozens of dog walkers in the area did not disappoint. They were unsurprisingly shocked and outraged that someone in their neighborhood would seek to profit from the torture and death of thousands of innocent creatures. The high point of the day was when one of the residents of Pelzer’s building came out to chat with the protesters and ended up making a generous contribution to the campaign. Even better, she offered to join the next protest. ![]() Video Clips: Michael Grobstein: Bristol-Myers Squibb 1 Michael Grobstein: Bristol-Myers Squibb 2 Christopher Perretta: State Street Corp. 1 |
