Friday, October 30, 2009 Freaky Friday in New York City in Solidarity with SHAC ![]() In solidarity with SHAC Global's Freaky Friday event, activists from Win Animal Rights donned costumes and visited the homes of top executives from Bristol-Myers Squibb and Novartis. Demo #1: James Cornelius, Chairman & CEO - Bristol-Myers Squibb Outside the home of James Cornelius, Chairman and CEO of BMS, protesters arrived sporting outfits of underground animal liberators, ghastly ghouls, and bloody vivisectors. The attire prompted a great deal of curious stares from onlookers, who readily asked for literature to learn more about the demonstration. Numerous passersby stopped to talk to activists, horrified by their neighbor's total lack of concern for the welfare of defenseless creatures. Although WAR rarely relies on costumes to make a point, it was clear that the costumes attracted attention and caused more pedestrians to stop to inquire about the campaign. Clearly this is a technique that should be used more often and likely will be a part of future WAR protests. ![]() Demo #2: Robert Pelzer, President - Novartis USA Following Cornelius, demonstrators descended on First Avenue to send some Halloween greetings to Robert Pelzer, President of Novartis U.S. While the activists didn't have any candy to give out, they sure had an abundance of literature instead. And they certainly needed it too, as protesters received quite a lot of support from neighbors, dog walkers, even a few cyclists from Critical Mass. All were shocked to hear that Mr. Pelzer was endorsing so much barbarity and recklessness, all to get dangerous drugs onto the market. As the weather became a bit colder, activists wrapped up the demonstration satisfied that once again named and shamed the heinous animal abusers. While the costumes might have appeared crazy and outlandish, the protests were very much welcome. Everyone recognized that the real monsters aren't outside with the banners but living inside their high rise apartments, profiting from the blood of innocent animals.
