Saturday, November 22, 2008 MaxMara and Basso Fur Protests Continue and Repeat Protest of the Vazquez Circus Demo #1: MaxMara - Madison Avenue Continuing the fight against MaxMara for their ridiculous decision to start selling fur, activists brought the reality of this heinous decision right to their front doors with loud angry voices and signs depicting bloodied and skinned animals, the reality of fur. Time and time again, passersby were shocked and disgusted by what they saw on the posters and heard in the loud chants, and time and time again potential MaxMara shoppers kept walking rather than risk confrontation with the passionate activists. ![]() Demo #2: Dennis Basso – New York Fur Ghoul For years Dennis Basso has been a target by animal rights activists. Why? His shop is lined from floor to ceiling with death. Racks and racks of fur and ONLY fur. The couch is fur - the pillows are fur, the rugs are fur. Voices raised, one of Basso's goons assaulted a female protester then grinned and laughed as cops looked the other way, even going so far as to laugh and say "yep" when asked if he thought it was fun to assault women. This is the kind of person Dennis Basso employs. Rest assured, Basso - this campaign has gone on for years and it will continue until your salon shuts down and YOU STOP THE KILLING. Demo #3: MaxMara - Madison Avenue Catching the MaxMara employees (who had been pointing at the pictures of stomped and electrocuted animals with smiles and laughs) off guard, the group of activists returned to the front doors, following up quicker than expected on their promise of "We'll be back." When one particularly nasty fur hag walked by, she went ballistic on the demonstrators for their vocal objection to the hag's full-length carcass coat. Once again, the NYPD looked the other way (don't they always?) as the hag put her hands on a protester and shoved her finger in activists' faces. The Cruella De Ville-esque anorexic witch showed her true colors as she was shamed, and resorted to the lamest of defenses: accusing the group of vegan activists of wearing leather. How pathetically sad. When will people learn that just because shoes are black and shiny they don't have to be made from animal hide? ![]() Demo #4: Vazquez Circus - Shea Stadium, Queens After a quick break at a local coffee shop to refuel, activists hopped on the subway to head out to Shea Stadium, host of the Vazquez Circus - home to unimaginable animal cruelty. From the time of the last fur demonstration to the time that the activists reached the circus, the temperature (which was already near freezing) had dropped at least another 15 degrees and the wind picked up horribly. Many activists could be heard shivering as they held banners and signs shaming this horrible circus and bringing to light the cruelty that is under federal investigation. One activist could be heard saying that in all his time doing animal activism, this was the coldest he'd ever been at a demo. But, the warriors prevailed and stuck it out, passing out leaflets and letting everyone going to that circus know exactly what the score is: Vazquez Circus is reprehensible and are known animal abusers. Dedicated activists also fliered every car in the Shea Stadium parking lot. Win Animal Rights wishes to thank In Defense of Animals (IDA) for providing the banner, posters and literature for the Vazquez Circus protests. |
